- To the tune of “All People Who on Earth do Dwell”…. All we in Newdigate who dwellSing to the Lord with cheerful voice; For all our friends who serve us well
And in our village life rejoice.
Our village shop’s essential role:
Stocks the supplies the village needs
Post Office counter for the dole
Groceries and hardware, things to read.
Blessed with two pubs we all can go
Into the Bells or Surrey Oaks
Good food and hand-pumps row on row
Great choice of beers for CAMRA folks
Here in the village centre find
At Social Club and Village Hall
Organisations of all kinds
Sports and pastimes for one and all
On Brocus field just spend the day
Football or cricket, games of bowls
Watching them, if you cannot play
Turn up to show support for all
But save your voices – there’s a place
In Church or ‘Non-Church’ Choir for you,
Always need men, tenor or bass
But ladies you’re all welcome too.
While shops and clubs and groups do thrive,
We’ve a community that’s great,
It’s you who keep our village live –
You are the heart of Newdigate!
To the Tune of “All Things Bright and Beautiful”…
All things bright and beautiful
All traffic great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
Our village sees them all.
The dazzling lights from Gatwick,
The trails left by the planes,
The cyclists in bright lycra
Who hurtle through our lanes….
Chorus
The lorries from the brickworks,
The horses trotting by,
The tractors piled with hay-bales
That nearly touch the sky…
Chorus
The S-L-O-W across the roadway,
The flashing neon signs,
The zig-zags round the school gate,
(Please!) Save us from yellow lines!
Chorus
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might say
“Slow down”, Enjoy our village,
And live another day!
Chorus
